SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO ANNOUNCES SPECIAL ELECTION
TO FILL VACANCY IN HOUSE DISTRICT 33



DES MOINES – Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro today announced his office has received a proclamation from Governor Culver ordering a special election on Nov. 24, 2009, to fill the vacancy in House District 33. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Representative Dick Taylor.


House District 33 is in the southern part of Linn County, including a portion of the City of Cedar Rapids. A map detailing the district boundaries can be found here: www.legis.state.ia.us/Redist/hpdf/h-33.pdf.


Candidates with either the Democratic or Republican parties will be nominated by political party convention. Any person interested in running as either a Democrat or Republican should contact their state party.


Those who wish to run for the House seat, but are unaffiliated with a party, may file nomination papers in the office of the Secretary of State.


Candidates who are affiliated with a non-party political organization may appear on the ballot either by filing nomination papers with the Secretary of State, or by nomination of their organization’s convention.


The filing deadline for candidate nomination papers is Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
