SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO REMINDS IOWANS TO VOTE IN TUESDAY'S REGULAR CITY ELECTIONS Friday Marks Deadline to Request Absentee Ballots by Mail DES MOINES - Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro reminds eligible voters to participate in the statewide regular city elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The majority of polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Others may open at noon, so voters should check with their county auditor for exact polling hours. Contact information for county auditors' offices can be found at www.sos.state.ia.us/elections/auditors/auditorslist.html. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is this Friday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. Absentee ballots requested by mail must either be returned by mail and postmarked no later than Monday, Nov. 2, or dropped off at the local county auditor's office before 8 p.m. on election day. Voters wishing to cast an absentee ballot in-person may do so at their local county auditor's office during normal business hours through Monday, Nov. 2. Those who are not registered to vote, and who want to vote on election day, may do so at their designated polling location. Eligible voters will need to provide photo identification and proof of their current residency. An Iowa driver’s license or non-driver ID card with a photo and expiration date is one form of identification. Other acceptable forms are listed on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.ia.us/elections/voterinformation/voterregistration.html#2. Additional information for voters and candidates can be found by contacting the local county auditor’s office, by visiting the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.ia.us, or by calling the Iowa Secretary of State’s office at 515-281-0145 (toll-free at 1-888-SOS-VOTE). ### |
