SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO ANNOUNCES H.D. 33 CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD COMPLETE

Two Candidates Have Officially Filed for the Special Election

DES MOINES - Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro today announced, at the 5 p.m. deadline, two candidates have successfully filed the necessary papers to appear on the Nov. 24 ballot to fill the vacancy in House District 33.

The candidates, in order of their filing date, are Kirsten Running-Marquardt (Cedar Rapids) and Joshua Thurston (Cedar Rapids).

Running-Marquardt (Democrat) and Thurston (Republican) were nominated by their respective party conventions.

House District 33 is in the southern part of Linn County and includes a portion of the City of Cedar Rapids. A map detailing the district boundaries can be found here: www.legis.state.ia.us/Redist/hpdf/h-33.pdf.

Polls will be open on Tues., Nov. 24 at 7 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m.
