SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO HOSTS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR CAPITOL YOUTH DAY 2009 DES MOINES – On Tuesday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m., Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro will host hundreds of middle school students for Capitol Youth Day (CYD) 2009. The event will start at the Wallace Building Auditorium and then move to the State Capitol. CYD is sponsored by the Secretary of State’s Office and the Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council. CYD brings students to their state capitol to promote civic engagement and help them gain a better understanding of the governing process. Students will meet with Secretary of State Mauro, other statewide elected officials and state legislators. They will also watch the legislative process from the Senate and House galleries. Approximately 700 students from the following middle schools are expected to attend:
