SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO HOSTS STUDENTS FOR CAPITOL YOUTH DAY 2009 DES MOINES – On Wednesday, April 8, at 9:30 a.m., Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro will host 500 students for Capitol Youth Day (CYD) 2009. The event will start at the Wallace Building Auditorium and then move to the State Capitol. CYD is sponsored by the Secretary of State’s Office and the Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council. CYD brings students to their state capitol to promote civic engagement and help them gain a better understanding of the governing process. Last month, the Secretary of State and the GDDC hosted 700 middle school students for the first session of CYD. Students will meet with Secretary of State Mauro, other statewide elected officials and state legislators. They will also watch the legislative process from the Senate and House galleries. Students from the following schools are expected to attend:
