SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO REMINDS IOWANS OF CITY ELECTION FILING PERIODS

DES MOINES – Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro reminds Iowans of the two separate candidate filing periods for upcoming city elections.

The filing period for cities without primaries begins today, Aug. 24 and ends Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.

The filing period for cities with primaries began Aug. 10 and ends this Thurs., Aug. 27 at 5 p.m.

Candidates may contact either their city clerk or county auditor for information regarding filing deadlines. Nomination papers, along with an affidavit of candidacy, must be filed with the city clerk no later than the deadlines listed above.

Nomination papers and affidavits of candidacy are available from the city clerk, the local county auditor and on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.ia.us/elections/electioninfo/cityelections.html. A candidate’s guide and additional information are also available on this website.
