SECRETARY OF STATE MAURO ANNOUNCES H.D. 90 CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD COMPLETE Four Candidates Have Officially Filed for the Special Election DES MOINES – Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro today announced, at the 5 p.m. deadline, four candidates have successfully filed the necessary papers to appear on the Sept. 1 ballot to fill the vacancy in House District 90. The candidates, in order of their filing date, are as follows: Curt Hanson (Fairfield), Stephen Burgmeier (Lockridge), Douglas William Philips (Keosauqua) and Dan Cesar (Keosauqua). Hanson (Democrat) and Burgmeier (Republican) were nominated by their respective party conventions. Philips was nominated by petition and Cesar was nominated by the Fourth of July Party, via petition. House District 90 includes all of Van Buren County, and portions of Jefferson and Wapello counties. “The special election in southeastern Iowa will give voters in House District 90 the opportunity to decide for themselves who they want to best represent their interests at the statehouse going forward,” Secretary Mauro said. “I strongly encourage Iowans to turn out for this election and to encourage their friends and neighbors to head to the polls and cast their vote on the first Tuesday of September.” Polls will be open on Tues., Sept. 1 at 7 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m. Additional information for voters and candidates regarding the H.D. 90 special election can be found by visiting the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.ia.us, or by calling the Iowa Secretary of State’s office at 515-281-0145 or toll-free at 1-888-SOS-Vote. ### |
